All of our establishments are renovated older buildings and by this simple action became the idea of blowing life back into our favourite part of South Africa. The Upper Karoo, like Death Valley in the USA is not a likely tourist destination but is often overlooked by many. The people living here are so reliant on the environment and this is clearly taken into consideration when it comes to our designs. The interior is a combination of modern eclectic with natural elements from the Karoo, incorporating vintage items to make it an authentic experience for visitors. Kliphuijs Richmond with all the cottages, the Kliphuijs Brassiere with its wide, open verandas not only welcomes guests but give them the feeling of a long-forgotten experience. With Boutique Guesthouse Hanover and The Hanover Luxury Hotel we pay homage to our ancestors crossing the mountains and starting a new life with sheep farming.
Making it a simple but fulfilling stay focusing on luxury and a bit of nostalgia.
Sweetfontein Boutique Farm Lodge main focus is our unique weddings, making this a sought-after wedding destination. This farm has evolved so much over the years, and like said by many visitors, difficult to capture in a photo, you have to experience it. It’s a feeling that overwhelms you and makes you want to stay forever.
Not far from Sweetfontein is Twyfelberg Karoo Hideaway, an old run-down farm turned into an exclusive three-bedroom unit, off-the-gird lodge totally reliant on the sun with its solar panels but creating that authentic farm stay. The Sauer Group needs to be experienced to give it full meaning, the feeling of grandeur surrounded by history.
